COVID-19: Ten Point Plan

The world is currently contending with the most significant public health crisis in living memory. The safety and welfare of our staff and passengers is our highest priority and with this in mind we have worked hard to implement a range of robust measures to ensure the terminal is a safe environment for all.

If you are travelling through the Airport soon, you will notice additional guidance and procedures in the terminal which are there to ensure your safety and allow you to continue with your journey - these include promoting good hand hygiene, increased cleaning and the use of PPE for passengers and staff.

COVID-19 Testing:

We recommend passengers check if a COVID-19 test is required prior to entry into their chosen destination on the GOV.UK website. Newcastle Airport is working in collaboration with two local COVID-19 testing companies to provide convenient, efficient and cost-effective pre-departure COVID-19 tests for passengers who require them. Find out more

This is our Ten Point Plan to ensure the safety of our staff and passengers:

1. Anyone displaying COVID-19 symptoms or who has a member of their household self-isolating should not come to the Airport

Passengers are reminded not to travel to the Airport should they or anyone in their household be displaying any symptoms of Coronavirus.

2. Face masks must be worn within the terminal building

All passengers must wear a face mask within the terminal building. Passengers must also wear masks in the Airport catering and retail outlets, unless they are sat at a table to eat and drink.

Children under the age of 11 or those with a good reason not do not need to wear a face mask (eg: Medical illnesses or providing assistance to a passenger who relies on lip reading).

3. Hand sanitiser is provided throughout the terminal and should be used often

Hand sanitiser stations are provided throughout the terminal for passengers to use at key points in their journey, including on entering the terminal, security search area and the departure lounge as well as the border and baggage halls.

4. A convenient COVID-19 testing facility is available on site

We are working with NPH Group, a local healthcare provider to provide a convenient COVID-19 testing facility on site at the Airport for passengers who require tests before leaving the UK or on arrival back from their destination. More information can be found here

5. Intensive cleaning and hygiene regime throughout the building

Enhanced cleaning regimes are in place throughout the terminal with increased disinfecting of regular touch points such as hand rails and buttons. Passengers are reminded of the importance of regular hand hygiene, hand sanitiser is available throughout the terminal for passengers to use.

6. Only ‘self-park’ car parks are in operation

In order to reduce touch points between passengers and staff our Premium Meet & Greet car park is not in operation. Passengers are able to choose from ExpressShort Stay 1, Short Stay 2, Long Stay and Premium Fast Track car parks.

7. Full flexibility on all car park bookings

We understand that your travel arrangements may need to change, therefore all of our on site car park bookings are currently fully ammendable and free to cancel if required.

8. An ICAO accredited COVID-19 safety plan

As an Airport we have earned an accrediation from the International Council of Aviation Operators (ICAO) for our COVID-19 safety measures.

The assessors, which included representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, a medical professional and a Public Health expert looked at the Airport’s compliance with general hygiene guidance, cleaning, masks and face coverings, health screening as well as the mental health and well-being of employees and passengers.

9. COVID-19 prevention training for all staff

All staff are required to complete a COVID-19 prevention and general awareness briefing.

Staff must also complete ‘COVID Secure’ training supported by departmental and activity specific training covering measures to limit the transmission of COVID-19 in their role.

10. Specific measures to ensure the safety of all staff

Social distancing measures are implemented throughout the site to allow 2m distancing wherever possible, this is to protect passengers as well as staff.

Provision of additional PPE is provided to protect staff where required and COVID-19 tests are being provided to staff or a member of their household who is showing symptoms.
