Long Haul Connections
As the global gateway for the region, Newcastle International Airport has spent the past 84 years ensuring that the people of the North East are connected to the rest of the world.
With 5.4 million passengers relying on the North East’s largest airport for business commuting, holiday sunshine, Christmas breaks, or simply visiting family, Newcastle provides the region with a vital links through the skies.
Alongside the wide variety of domestic and European routes served by the Airport, passengers can also travel long-haul to a range of far-flung destinations.
Since the introduction of Emirates in September 2007, thousands of people have used the daily route to travel between the North East and the ultramodern city of Dubai.
The route, which is operated on a Boeing 777 aircraft, provides a critical link to the Middle East and is fundamental for businesses in the North East.
Dubai also extremely popular for leisure passengers, due to its guaranteed heat, glamorous shopping scene and futuristic architecture.
Also a firm favourite amongst holidaymakers is the lively Mexican city of Cancun, which is served directly with TUI.
Passengers travelling in 2020 will be able to visit the sun-kissed city between 6th April -26th October, with operations to the Mexican resort running every Monday.
From Cancun, visitors can also explore the ancient Mayan history and visit Chichen Itza, which is famed for being one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World.’
The airline also operate double-fortnightly services to Orlando Sanford during the summer season, which is perfect for Disney fans across the North East.
As well as this, passengers can also visit the USA in winter thanks to a number of seasonal trips to New York with Jet2CityBreaks.
These festive trips are perfectly timed to focus on the key holiday periods – so travellers can purchase their stocking fillers in New York’s sprawling shopping streets before visiting the impressive Rockefeller Centre Christmas Tree.
Last year (2018) over 775,000 of Newcastle International’s 5.4m passengers continued their journey and connected through one of the Airport’s hub links to get to far flung destinations – such as New York, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
With passengers having the option to connect through airports such as Heathrow, Dubai, Charles De Gaulle, Schiphol, Dublin and Munich from February 2020, it could not be easier for the North East travelling public to find convenient flight times for adaptable schedules.
Airlines such as British Airways, Emirates, Air France, Aer Lingus and KLM offer travellers a “through ticket” – which means that if a passenger books thorough one of the respective airlines, or one of its partners, there will be no need to check-in at each stop.
This provides passengers with one-stop connections at hub airports with the convenience of checked-in baggage all the way through to a final destination.
Boasting a high level of on-time aircraft performance, the Newcastle International Airport operation is firmly dedicated to making business connections as simple and stress-free as possible.
Earlier this year, the Airport revealed that it would be operating a new route with Lufthansa to Munich – which is set to serve as a key hub for passengers in the region.
Commencing operations from February 3rd 2020, the Airbus A319 aircraft will fly six times weekly between the two cities and provide an impressive list of onward connections.
The major hub airport, which serves 61 intercontinental countries, will further enhance transport links throughout Germany and through the rest of central Europe.
Passengers travelling with Lufthansa will also be able to easily connect to long-haul destinations such as Tel Aviv, Singapore, San Paulo.
The route is set to support many of the region’s businesses and will send a strong signal to national and international companies to invest in the North East.
