Newcastle Airport revises car parking tariffs

Due to the restrictions placed on international travel, the aviation industry continues to face significant challenges. Newcastle International Airport is experiencing a second consecutive year of significantly reduced passenger numbers compared to 2019 levels.

The costs of operating the Airport continue to exceed income, however despite this we have worked closely with our airline partners over the past 18 months to retain the vital connectivity that the North East relies upon.

Newcastle is the region’s largest Airport and we are confident that the business will return to its former strength in due course. The changes to the testing and isolation requirements for fully vaccinated passengers returning from amber list destinations could result in the start of a modest recovery, however, the outlook for the aviation industry in the short to medium term continues to be uncertain. Due to the prolonged and challenging business conditions we find ourselves in we must make some difficult decisions which will include a number of price increases.

From the 20th July 2021 the Airport’s ‘gate’ car parking tariffs will be changing. This will include an increase to the Express Car Park tariff to £4 for 10 minutes. This is a £1 price increase on the current charge and is comparable to other regional airports across the UK including Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.

These price increases will allow us to continue to provide connectivity for the region during these challenging times and to further invest in the airport in order to attract high quality airlines. The income will also allow the business to make the investments necessary to progress with the goal of becoming a Net Zero Carbon emissions airport by 2035 and achieve the Government’s ambition of a ‘Green’ recovery.

We would like to remind customers that pre-booking car parking in advance is advised, with a range of competitively priced options for stays of 1 day and above available at www.newcastleairport.com.

For those customers wishing to travel by alternative means, there is a regular Metro service to the Airport or our onsite Taxi operator Arrow Cars is also available. We will continue to provide passengers 15 minutes free parking in our Short Stay 2 car park and offsite taxi operators can still make use of a free taxi waiting area adjacent to Callerton Parkway.
