Newcastle International Airport announces multi-million pound upgrade of its car parking facilities
Development plans for a £4m upgrade of car parking facilities have been unveiled at Newcastle International Airport today (DEC 4th).
The ambitious plans include a brand new purpose-built Premium Meet & Greet car parking facility and a new Premium Fast Track car parking area, which will include extra-wide bays and newly installed covered walkways from the car parks to the terminal - all of which will be complete in time for summer 2019.
The new range of parking products, which are on sale now, are in response to increased customer demand and coincide with the biggest redevelopment of car parking facilities at the Airport in a decade. The range of new parking facilities will use the latest technology to offer additional security alongside an improved experience for both business and leisure passengers.
A review of pricing tariffs will be undertaken as part of the multi-million pound investment, which will include an increase to the Express Car Park price to £2 for 10 minutes from January 2019. The Airport will continue to provide 15 minutes free parking for customers picking up or dropping off passengers in the Medium Stay Car Park, which will be renamed Short Stay 2 from January. There will also be incremental price increases across the other car parks.
A new designated taxi waiting area close to the Airport will also be created as part of the new project.
Two new Premium parking products launched:
The Airport has launched two brand new premium parking products, both of which are available to book on the Airport’s website now and will be open from early summer 2019.
The Airport’s new ‘Premium Meet & Greet’ car park is available to book now for passengers travelling this summer. Conveniently located just a couple of minutes’ walk from the terminal, the facility is ideal for all customers looking for a convenient start to their holiday. This new and improved parking area will allow passengers to simply drop their car off with a dedicated team at the Premium Meet & Greet reception area and head straight into the terminal. The team will ensure the car is available for a hassle-free collection by customers on their return.
The car park will also benefit from photographic booths to inspect the condition of passenger vehicles when entering and leaving the facility.
A ‘Premium Fast Track’ car park is available to book now for passengers who are travelling from summer 2019. Located right next to the terminal - just 30 metres from check-in, the Premium Fast Track facility is ideal for business passengers and will provide 70 extra-wide spaces, entry and exit via an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera for improved security, a covered walkway to the terminal and the additional benefit of access to the Fast Track lane through the security search area. This product is perfect for those looking for an easy, fast and more efficient journey through the Airport.
Improved drop off facilities:
The ‘Express Car Park’ and ‘Minibus & Van’ parking facilities will remain conveniently located at the very front of the terminal, ideal for picking up or dropping off passengers. As part of the improvement project, these car parks will benefit from expansion to provide more capacity and new customer walkways will ensure shelter from the car park to the terminal entrance.
Short Stay 2 replaces the Medium Stay car park:
Alongside the current Short Stay car park, the new Short Stay 2 facility is perfect for anyone looking to be close to the terminal and leaving their car for up to 1 week. The new Short Stay 2 car park will replace the Medium Stay car park and will result in a total of 1,200 Short Stay spaces being made available for business and leisure customers. Both Short Stay 1 and 2 car parks are suitable for passengers who wish to pre-book or pay on return.
The Airport will continue to provide 15 minutes free parking for customers dropping off or picking up passengers in the Short Stay 2 car park.
More about the project
Newcastle Airport is the largest airport in the North East of England. Having seen the highest passenger numbers in a decade in 2017, the airport is responding to increased demand and is future proofing car parks for further predicted growth in the coming years.
Richard Knight, Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle International Airport, said: “I’m very excited to announce our plans for a multi-million pound upgrade to the airport’s car parks.
“Last year we saw the highest passenger numbers in a decade so it’s important that we future proof our car parks with additional capacity, and also use the latest technology to improve the passenger experience.
“As part of this investment project we have undertaken a review of the price tariffs across all car parks. The Airport provides a very competitive parking rate compared with other regional airports in the UK and we will continue to do this, however we must also ensure that we are able to provide a safe, secure and reliable car parking service to our passengers.”
The upgrades to the car parks will be phased over the next six months ready for the summer 2019 peak travel period.
