Work underway on Bellway HQ at airport business park
Development work on Newcastle Airport’s Business Park is now underway – as construction has started on Bellway PLC’s new headquarters.
The North-East-based housing developer is to be the first business to the Airport Business Park site, with the building set to be completed in June 2020.
Bellway has designed the new office on the Airport site, and the energy-efficient building will include conference rooms, high-end training facilities and a large office space.
Tynexe, a joint venture company between Newcastle City Council and Dysart Developments (North East) Ltd, is the developer for the Business Park – and it has started work on the site’s estate road.
The business park will provide 175,000 sq. ft. of premium office accommodation, benefiting from first-class landscaping in a parkland setting at the south side of the runway.
The office areas will be served by excellent transport links, including Callerton Parkway Metro station and direct access to the A696 trunk road, leading to the A1.
Once the building is fully operational, it is expected that over 100 office staff will work within the new Bellway office.
Mark Hunt, Chief Financial Officer at Newcastle Airport, said: “It is very exciting to see work getting underway on what is an important project for the North East.
“I am delighted that one of the North East’s most well-known businesses has chosen Newcastle Airport’s Business Park as the site for their new headquarters. I look forward to seeing the development progress to completion.”
Simon Scougall, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary at Bellway PLC, added: “Progress on the building site is well underway, with the frameworks to be ready by November.
“The building should then be wind and watertight by February – with completion ready for furniture and then an office move from June 2020 onwards.”
Newcastle City Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment and Investment, Cllr Ged Bell, who is a member of the Tynexe Board, said: “It’ great news that work has started on Bellway’s new headquarters.
“It will employ about 100 staff on site, and the wider Airport Business Park will provide employment for 2,000 people making it a major hub for jobs.
“With its superb international connections by air, road and rail, the park will make a big contribution to the region’s economy, and it’s fantastic that a North East company like Bellway will be right at the heart of it.”
Cllr Iain Malcolm, Leader of South Tyneside Council and Chair of the LA7 local authority shareholders, added: “I’m delighted to see this exciting project get underway.
“This development will generate jobs and significant economic benefits for the regional economy.
“The site will offer unrivalled connectivity and transport links and I am sure Bellway will be just the first high profile company to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The Airport Business Park is set to create around 2,000 jobs upon total completion of all phases and will have significant economic benefits to the region.
